This unforgettable journey takes trekkers through untouched wilderness, traditional mountain villages, lush forests, high mountain passes, and both the North and South Base Camps of Kanchenjunga. Perfect for adventurers seeking solitude and authentic Himalayan culture, the trek delivers breathtaking scenery and a true off-the-beaten-path experience in eastern Nepal.
The Kanchenjunga Circuit Trek is a remarkable long-distance trekking adventure in eastern Nepal that combines raw Himalayan beauty, remote mountain culture, and high-altitude wilderness into one unforgettable journey. Unlike many commercial trekking routes, the Kanchenjunga region remains peaceful, less crowded, and incredibly authentic.
The trek begins with a scenic flight from Kathmandu to Bhadrapur followed by beautiful drives through Ilam’s tea gardens and eastern hill settlements to Taplejung, the gateway to the Kanchenjunga region. From Sekathum, the trekking trail gradually ascends through dense bamboo forests, suspension bridges, cascading waterfalls, and charming mountain villages. The northern section of the circuit follows the Ghunsa Valley toward Pangpema, the North Base Camp of Kanchenjunga at 5,143 meters. Trekkers enjoy spectacular close-up views of Mt. Kanchenjunga, Jannu, Makalu, Everest, and several snow-covered Himalayan peaks. Crossing the scenic Sele La and Sinion La passes, the trek transitions into the southern region of Kanchenjunga. Here, trekkers explore the stunning Yalung Glacier and Oktang viewpoint near the South Base Camp, surrounded by dramatic alpine landscapes and towering ice walls.
The route passes through the Kanchenjunga Conservation Area, home to rare Himalayan wildlife including red pandas, snow leopards, Himalayan black bears, blue sheep, and musk deer. The region also showcases extraordinary biodiversity with subtropical forests, rhododendron hills, alpine meadows, and glacial terrain. Beyond the natural beauty, the trek offers rich cultural encounters with Sherpa, Rai, Limbu, and Tibetan Buddhist communities whose traditional lifestyles remain deeply connected to the mountains. The Kanchenjunga Circuit Trek is ideal for trekkers seeking adventure, wilderness, culture, and one of Nepal’s finest off-the-beaten-path trekking experiences.

Unfortunately, our Kanchenjunga trek had to be cancelled due to severe weather conditions and flooding in Nepal, especially across the eastern region. Heavy rains over 4th & 5th October caused major disruptions and tragic loss of lives in Ilam — our deepest condolences to the affected families. Though our trip couldn’t continue, we are truly grateful to Ghumnajaau and Nir for their sincere efforts, care, and support throughout. You did your best in very difficult circumstances. We will definitely return to Nepal and complete the Kanchenjunga Trek in the future.
