Tilman Pass Trek – 17 Days Himalayan Adventure in Langtang, Nepal
Located deep within the wilderness of the Langtang region, Tilman Pass (5320m) is one of Nepal’s most challenging and rewarding trekking routes. Named after the legendary British explorer H.W. Tilman (1898–1977), this high mountain pass connects the serene Tamang valleys of Langtang with the sacred lakes of Panchpokhari, offering continuous vistas of the Langtang and Jugal Himal ranges.
Your journey begins in Kathmandu with a scenic drive to Syabrubensi via Dhunche, passing through lush forests and charming hill villages. From there, the trail ascends through Lama Hotel to Langtang village—the oldest Tamang settlement in the region—and onward to the spiritual heart of Langtang, Kyanjin Gompa. A side hike to Tserko Ri (4984m) rewards trekkers with breathtaking views of Langtang Lirung, Langshisha Ri, and Yala Peak.
As the trail ventures deeper, you’ll traverse enchanting rhododendron forests, high yak pastures, and vast glacial moraines inside Langtang National Park, home to diverse alpine flora and elusive wildlife. Crossing the icy Tilman Pass demands stamina and determination, but the reward is immense: the pristine beauty of Panchpokhari—Nepal’s sacred cluster of five lakes and the world’s ninth-highest wetland area. The trek concludes with a peaceful descent through remote forests to Chautara.
The Tilman Pass Trek is perfect for seasoned adventurers seeking solitude, raw Himalayan beauty, and cultural immersion off the beaten path.
