Rolwaling Valley Tashi Lapcha Pass Trek – Adventure Trek via Tsho Rolpa & Khumbu
The Rolwaling Tashi Lapcha Pass Trek is a spectacular journey that combines the serene beauty of the Rolwaling Valley with the iconic landscapes of the Khumbu region in Nepal. This challenging and inspiring trek takes you to remote high-altitude locations, offering breathtaking views of the Himalayas while testing your endurance with the crossing of Tashi Lapcha Pass (5755m). The trek blends the quiet, quaint trails of Rolwaling with the busier, popular routes of Khumbu, creating a unique and rewarding Himalayan adventure.
Rolwaling Valley is a hidden gorge nestled between majestic mountains. The trek begins with a drive from Kathmandu to Gonggar via Dolakha, followed by trekking through villages such as Simigaon, Beding, and Naa Gaon, with magnificent views of Mount Gaurishankar (7134m). In Naa Gaon, trekkers explore the Yalung Glacier and climb the training peak of Ramdung Go (5930m).
From Naa, the trail ascends to Tsho Rolpa Lake (4540m), the largest glacial lake in Nepal, before continuing across slippery glaciers to reach Tashi Lapcha Pass (5755m). This high pass separates the Rolwaling region from Khumbu and the Gaurishankar Conservation Area from Sagarmatha National Park. After the pass, the trail joins the busy trekking paths of the Khumbu region, offering views of Mount Everest (8848m), Cho Oyu (8201m), and other famous peaks. The descent leads through Thame to the bustling Sherpa town of Namche Bazaar and finally to Lukla, where a flight back to Kathmandu concludes the trek.
This trek also provides a rare opportunity to observe the diverse Himalayan lifestyle, transitioning from the remote, traditional communities of Rolwaling to the more urbanized Sherpa settlements of Khumbu.

The 15–17 days Rolwaling Valley Tashi Lapcha La Pass Trek (5755m) traverses both the Gaurishankar Conservation Area (GCA) and the Everest–Khumbu region, making it one of Nepal’s most adventurous high-pass treks. This journey is designed for adventure seekers who prefer challenging, off-the-beaten-path experiences in the Himalayas.
The trek is strenuous and requires a high level of physical fitness. Trekkers usually walk 6–7 hours per day with sufficient acclimatization days built into the itinerary. However, unlike moderate treks, this route requires basic mountaineering knowledge and technical skills, especially for crossing the Tashi Lapcha Pass (5755m), where the trail passes through glaciers and rugged high-mountain terrain
Preparation through cardio training, leg-strength exercises, wall climbing, or rock climbing practice is highly recommended to make the trek safer and more enjoyable.
The trail involves stone steps, steep ascents, descents, glaciers, and uneven paths, making it technically demanding. The biggest challenge is adapting to the high altitude, so proper acclimatization, hydration, and rest are crucial
With good preparation, determination, and the right mindset, most trekkers successfully complete this rewarding journey, enjoying breathtaking mountain panoramas, glacial lakes, and rich cultural encounters from Rolwaling Valley to the Khumbu region via Tashi Lapcha Pass.
Accommodation during the Rolwaling Valley Tashi Lapcha La Pass Trek is a combination of lodge-based stays and tented camping. In the lower villages, you will find basic but comfortable teahouses with shared bathrooms, clean bedding, and warm blankets. As you ascend toward the Tashi Lapcha Pass (5755m), accommodation shifts to tented camps, where our team provides sleeping bags and insulation (comfortable up to –30°C to –40°C).
Meals are served at teahouses or prepared by our camping kitchen crew. Expect a mix of traditional Nepali dishes like dal bhat, along with noodles, pasta, vegetables, and occasional meat dishes. Vegetarian options are widely available, and special dietary needs can often be accommodated if informed in advance.
For drinking water, it is strongly recommended to carry purification tablets or a portable filter, as untreated tap or stream water is not safe for consumption. While bottled water may be available at some lodges, using a reusable water bottle helps reduce plastic waste and supports sustainability in the fragile Himalayan environment.
Yes, all treks include licensed mountain guide and trained porters to ensure safety, provide cultural insights, and assist with luggage.
Ghumnajaau’ s team has extensive experience in navigating remote trails and high-altitude routes, combining expertise with deep knowledge of local culture and the environment.
