Why Trekking Permits Are Required in Nepal

All trekking regions in Nepal impose permits to:

Where to Get Trekking Permits in Nepal

For Free Individual Trekkers (FIT)

  • Available at Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) offices in Kathmandu (Bhrikutimandap) and Pokhara

Required documents:

  • Original passport
  • Passport copy
  • Visa copy
  • At least 4 passport-size photos
  • Cash (NPR) for permit fees

Types of Trekking Permits in Nepal

1. National Park & Conservation Area Permits

  • Most trekking routes lie inside National Parks or Conservation Areas. These permits are mandatory for most treks.

Permit Fees:

National Park Permit: NPR 3000 per person

Conservation Area Permit: NPR 3,000 per person

 

2. TIMS Card (Trekkers’ Information Management System)

  • The TIMS Card is implemented by Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) and TAAN to ensure trekkers’ safety.
